Sans Prophet band located in Brookings Oregon on the beautiful Oregon Coast has entertained people all over the country with their unique music style from Rock to Reggae with a combination of Rhythm and Blues, Classic Oldies, and Rock n’ Roll.
Hi - I'm Mark Jones and I play the bass. I studied music in the 80's at college of the Siskiyous. At this time I got the opportunity to record in a professional studio with Dr. Kerby Shaw's jazz choir. Immortalized in vinyl, I graduated and pursued a degree in graphic illustration at San Jose State University. In San Jose i played bass for a jazz combo class and for theater productions. I also composed and directed the music for a 'City Lights,' production of the play "The Connection.' Years later I graduated cum laude with a B.A. in art from Humbolt State University. Besides my work with San Prophet, I played with an eighteen piece swing band for about eight years.
I am Scott Northrup, and my love affair with music and drums started when I was in 6th grade when my uncle Bruce gave me his drum set and my first lesson. In 2006 in Brookings Oregon lead singer of Sans Prophet walked into my office and asked me to audition for lead drummer position in the band. I was accepted in to the band and ever since then we have been performing at various venues for profit and non-profit organizations for last four and half years. Having a diverse musical exposure with a strong affinity for rock music I have to admit that ultimately: I am a rock drummer, stuck in a blues band, who wants to be a jazz drummer. Challenging each other I and the band members have learned to really mix the music offering our listener traditional style with a unique style blend beat.
My name is Bart L. Cotta, and I like to write poems and have passion for R&B and Rock & Roll music. In 1967 I sang in my first band and over the years worked with many musicians across the southwest learning from all of them. Around 1986 I moved to Southern Oregon in Brookings Oregon and in 1987 joined San Prophet band. I and Jefferey Lee have been close friends and have been writing music together for 15 years after he joined the band. I cannot tell you how much I owe the current members of this band. They have been my best friends, mentors, partners, and without Scott, Mark, and Jeff the album would not have happened.
Hi! I'm Jeff. I play a number of stringed instruments including acoustic guitar, electric guitar, resonator slide guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. I stated playing guitar in 1962, at the age of 10. Since then I have played with a number of groups and many musicians throughout California, Oregon Coast, Northern Oregon, Southern Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest. I have been playing with Sans Prophet since 1987, and co-writing songs with the lead singer Bart Cotta. Song writing came into play for me around 1970 and I have continued writing songs played by Sans Prophet, other artists, and solo. In 2009, I received third place in the rock category for my song “Red Dog” at the prestigious Song of the Year award ceremony put on by The Central Oregon Songwriter’s associations in Bend, Oregon. I have also had the privilege to play at Unity Church and the Spiritual Awareness Community in Bend, Oregon.
